KYOC Katsuta Seshonen Outdoor Club(KYOC)

KYOC... the Prelude

History

Many years ago, many clubs associated with the Katsuta Kinro Seishonen Home in Hitachi-naka city  were slowly dying out. Fortunately, during that time, English education was booming across Japan and anindividual by the name of "takayuki" thought it would be a great idea to create a club that can provide a place for young Japanese people and foreigners to gather and exchange cultural values and language lessons.  After some time, this organization became known as KYEC... or the Katsuta Youth Education Club.

Preceding the creation of KYEC, the club was known as KYOC... Katsuta Youth Outdoor Club, which was a club dedicated to outdoor sports, ie. hiking, mountain climbing, skiing, dancing, and etc. Nevertheless, due to non-active leaders and the lack of popularity for outdoor sports, KYOC struggled to survive.

Thereafter, before KYOC would completely perish, "Takayuki" assumed command of KYOC and transformed it to KYEC on April 7th, 2001. Although KYEC was popular, the club suffered notably due to financing. So to keep things fun and simple, KYEC became a free based language learning club under the supervision of highly motivated and active volunteer leaders and members.

After more than eight years, KYEC continues to grow with many new members who actively participate on a weekly basis. It is said that aside from learning English and Japanese, many members have the unique opportunity to meet people from different cultural backgrounds and create strong bonds.

When I first started KYEC, I had a lot of anxiety whether or not the club would succeed in gathering many foreigners and Japanese people.

Fortunately, because of many social events and invitations to all kinds of people from different backgrounds who all want to learn, we now have a multiplicity of active members attending KYEC who voluntarily particpate in community-based activities.

Please come and have fun with us every Wednesdays from 1900 to 2100.
